How to Calculate a Vehicle Number in Numerology

This turns a registration number into a single digit and compares it with your own numbers — useful before you book a number at the RTO, while you still have a choice. You need the registration and your date of birth.

The manual method

  1. Take the last four digits of the registration. That is the conventional reading, and it is the part you actually choose at the RTO — the state code and series are assigned to you.
  2. Add those four digits together. Ignore the letters entirely; vehicle numerology does not convert them.
  3. Reduce the total to a single digit by adding its digits, repeating until one digit remains.
  4. Find your Mulank from the day of the month you were born, reduced to a single digit.
  5. Look your Mulank up in the vehicle table below and see whether that total is among its favourable numbers.

Why two different answers exist

What this number does not tell you

A registration number is not a safety measure. It says nothing about how a vehicle will be driven, serviced or maintained, and nothing here should be read as making a journey safer or less safe. The influence is treated as minor even by the sources that publish a method — it is worth using to pick between registrations the RTO already offers you, and it is not worth paying a premium for or changing a plate you already hold.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I include the letters of the registration?

No. Vehicle numerology works from the digits alone. This is different from name numerology, where the letters are converted using the Chaldean table — a distinction worth knowing, because it is why a name calculator and a vehicle calculator on the same site use different arithmetic.

Last four digits, or all of them?

The last four is the convention, because those are the digits a buyer can choose while the state code and series are allotted. Our calculator shows both figures so you can see when they differ and why another site may have given you a different number.

Is it worth paying extra for a fancy number?

That is a spending decision, not a numerological one. The influence is treated as minor. If a favourable number is available at the normal fee, take it; paying a large premium is not something numerology supports, and neither is changing a registration you already have.

Why does this page use a different friendship table from your marriage pages?

Because vehicle numerology has its own published convention, and it genuinely differs from the ank-maitri friendships used for marriage compatibility — on Mulank 8, for instance, ank-maitri counts 8 as friendly while the vehicle convention advises against it. We publish both tables on our methodology page rather than quietly picking one and pretending they agree.

Every table on this page is published in full, with what we will and will not compute, on our how we calculate page.
