How to Calculate Your Expression (Destiny) Number
The Expression number — often called the Destiny number — comes from every letter of your full name, vowels and consonants together. You need the complete spelling you go by.
The manual method
- Write your full name as you normally use it, including the surname.
- Assign each letter its Chaldean value and add them all — vowels and consonants alike.
- Note the compound total before reducing. Practitioners read the compound number as the fuller picture and the single digit as the summary.
- Reduce to one digit. That is your Expression number.
Worked example — Aarav Mehta
- Every letter: A=1, A=1, R=2, A=1, V=6, M=4, E=5, H=5, T=4, A=1
- Compound total: 30
- 3 + 0 = 3
- Expression number: 3
What this number does not tell you
Expression describes aptitude and the direction a name pushes towards. It does not predict an occupation or an outcome, and two people sharing a number share a tendency, not a life.

Is the Expression number the same as the name number?
They are calculated the same way — every letter of the full name, totalled and reduced. Different traditions use different labels for it. What matters is that the same letters and the same letter-value table were used.
Why is my Expression number different on another site?
Almost always because that site uses the Pythagorean table rather than Chaldean. The two assign different values to the same letters, so the same name legitimately produces two different numbers. This page works the same name out in both systems side by side so you can see exactly where they diverge. Everything on this site, including the paid reports, uses Chaldean.
