Name Compatibility — How to Check Whether Two Names Match
This compares two people using their names and birth dates and returns a compatibility score with the reasoning behind it. You need both names and, for the fuller reading, both dates of birth.
The manual method
- Calculate each name's Chaldean number separately — every letter, totalled and reduced to one digit.
- Calculate each person's Mulank from their day of birth.
- Check the two Mulanks against the ank-maitri table, which records whether two root numbers treat each other as friendly, one-sided or neutral.
- Read the name numbers alongside that. Names that reduce to friendly numbers ease a pairing; the birth numbers carry more weight than the names.
Worked example — Aarav and Ishita
- Aarav: A=1, A=1, R=2, A=1, V=6 = 11 → 1 + 1 = 2 → name number 2
- Ishita: I=1, S=3, H=5, I=1, T=4, A=1 = 15 → 1 + 5 = 6 → name number 6
- The calculator then weighs these against both Mulanks and the maitri table to produce the score.
Every mulank pairing, scored
If you already know both mulanks you can read the answer straight off this grid. Each figure is the marriage score for that pair, and each links to a page explaining it. This is the same table the calculator above uses and the same one behind every compatibility page on this site.
Scores run 20% to 97% — no pairing is ever a certainty and none is hopeless. The grid is symmetric: mulank 3 with 4 reads the same as 4 with 3.
What this number does not tell you
A compatibility score describes tendencies between two sets of numbers. It cannot tell you whether a particular relationship will last, and a low score means a pairing needs more deliberate effort — not that it is doomed.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do names matter more than birth dates in compatibility?
No. The birth numbers carry more weight, because a birth date is fixed while a name can be changed or shortened. Names are read as a modifying influence on top of the Mulank pairing.
What if we have the same name number?
Shared numbers usually mean shared instincts, which is comfortable but can mean neither partner supplies what the other lacks. Whether that reads as harmony or as an echo depends on the number itself.
Can this tell me if we should marry?
It cannot, and no honest numerologist would claim otherwise. It describes how two sets of numbers tend to interact. The decision involves everything numbers do not see.
