How to Check Your Lo Shu Grid From Your Date of Birth
The Lo Shu grid arranges the digits of your birth date into a three-by-three square and shows which numbers you have, which repeat, and which are absent. All it needs is your date of birth.
The manual method
- Write out every digit of your birth date. Zeros are not placed in the grid — only 1 through 9 occupy cells.
- Draw a three-by-three square. The standard Vedic arrangement places 4, 9, 2 on the top row, 3, 5, 7 in the middle, and 8, 1, 6 along the bottom.
- Write each digit into its own cell, repeating it as many times as it appears in your date.
- Note the empty cells — those are your missing numbers, and they are read as areas needing conscious attention.
- Look for complete rows, columns and diagonals. A full line is called an arrow or plane and is read as a pronounced strength; a line missing entirely is read as its opposite.
Worked example — born 1992-03-14
- Digits placed (zeros omitted): 1×2, 2×1, 3×1, 4×1, 9×2
- Missing numbers: 5, 6, 7, 8
- Repeated digits strengthen their cell; missing ones mark the areas the grid says to work on deliberately.
What this number does not tell you
A missing number in the grid is not a deficiency in a person. It is read as a quality that has to be built rather than one that arrives easily, and plenty of people with a gap in the grid are strongest in exactly that area.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does a missing number in the Lo Shu grid mean?
It marks a quality the grid says will not come automatically. Missing 5, for instance, is read as needing to build steadiness deliberately. It describes a starting point, not a ceiling.
Is zero placed in the grid?
No. The Lo Shu grid holds only 1 through 9, so zeros in a birth date are simply skipped. Someone born in 2005 places the 2 and the 5 and nothing else from the year.
What is a plane or arrow in the Lo Shu grid?
A complete row, column or diagonal. A full line is read as a pronounced strength in that area, and a line entirely absent is read as its counterpart — something to develop rather than something missing permanently.
